According to the Book of Dane a child was going to be born of a shapeshifting mother, sired by a god. This child would not only inherit the powers of both parents, but the rare union would also result in powers and abilities never before seen. The catalyst for these powers would lie with an amulet created by the god Dane himself. It would not only recognize its true owner but would glow with an holy light when its true owner held it.
This child would grow up and not only be the ruler of Ossidian, but would also lead armies to take back the surrounding lands from the Evil Ones who had taken them many aeons ago.
In short this child, due to its unique bloodlines would be virtually indestructible.
The god Osirus wanted to be the god who fulfilled the prophesy, wanted it to be his son who ruled Ossidian and the surrounding lands.
Wanting the child to be brought up as a prince of Ossidian so that he would learn all there was to know of the land, and ruling it, Osirus struck a deal with Prince Cecil de la Deyton.
The prince was 7th in line to inherit his own father's throne, which meant his chances were slim. Yet he had all the qualities needed to make a good King. Osirus promised Cecil the throne of Ossidian to be its only ruler until such time as Osirus' own son became of age. Almost as an afterthought, he extracted a pledge from Prince Cecil to also allow the boys mother to live out her days as a respected consort to the king. Cecil agreed that he would raise the child as his own, and that his mother would be the King's consort.
No one but the boys mother, King Cecil, and Osirus were to know the child's true heritage until he became of age. The entire kingdom would accept him as Cecil's son, and heir.
In the fullness of time the child was born and much ceremony was made as Osirus appeared to give the child the amulet. He held the beautiful amulet with the sun on one side and the moon on the other out to the infant and watched as the baby reached for it...reached for it and grabbed it in one of his chubby little hands. All held their breath as.....NOTHING happened! Although this son was born of a god and a shapeshifter, he had not inherited the powers foretold of by Dane. In a rage Osirus refused to believe the child was his and ordered the child and his mother to be banished from the kingdom, and he ordered Cecil to see that it was done.
Now Cecil had as his chief adviser a Sorcerer named Melacham. Although he appeared loyal to the new King, he was out for his own ends...he too needed the child that Dane had fortold of. Melacham's magic was not self making nor self charging, he drained the magic off others, without their knowledge, to fuel his own. He wanted the child to feed his powers!
Cecil gave Melacham the order to take the child and his mother out of the kingdom with orders to give the mother enough money to care for herself and the child and promises of more to come. However, what Melacham did instead was recite the magic spell necessary to kill a shifter and buried the mother in an unmarked grave in a neighboring town. He gave the child to some childless peasants and arranged to collect the money that Cecil thought was being used by the mother for his own ends.
Osirus didn't give up however, and soon he met another shifter, this one more beautiful than any other woman he'd ever seen, by the name of Calaya. She soon became with child and was brought to Castle Obsidian to live. Cecil took one look at the beautiful Calaya and fell deeply in love with her.
Soon, her child was born and once again Osirus appeared with the amulet. As soon as this child reached out and touched it the amulet lit up as if lit by the sun and moon represented on it! Osirus rejoiced and proclaimed his son would grow to be the mightiest of warriors, the wisest of rulers, why he would....
The soft melodic voice of Calaya broke in and said, "She, sir...she will be..you have a daughter...not a son"
The god's rage knew no bounds as he reached to snatch the amulet away from the child. As he did, the god Dane appeared and stopped him. Lifting the baby in his arms he forbid Osirus to ever take the amulet away from the child, and fearing for the child's safety, he banished Osirus from the kingdom forever.
Holding the infant a moment longer, watching as she began to coo and gurgle at the glowing amulet. Finally handing her back to her mother, he addressed both Calaya and Cecil and told them to watch the child well. As long as she stayed within her own kingdom, within the boundaries of Ossidian, she was safe, not even magic could kill her. Outside the gates she would be vulnerable to magic unless she was wearing her Amulet. Laying his hands on the infant Dane gave her a final blessing and asked that she be named Cassandra in memory of a mortal woman he had loved once. As Calaya agreed, Dane gave the child one final look, then left.
The child grew into a beautiful, but very headstrong, woman, and due to conflicts with her father she left the kingdom when she was 16, still not knowing the truth of her birth.
Having fallen in love with one of the residents of a neighboring kingdom, Cassandra settled there not knowing that she was in danger from Melacham, who still wanted her magic to fuel his own. Finding that the town she had settled in contained many with powerful magic, Melacham tried to take the town over and have it for his own. Defeated by a group of the residents lead by Cassandra, she divided up the riches of the castle as payment for their help, and went back to her new home and tried to settle down and have a normal life.
This was not to be however. Melacham's influence still lingered, and her life was threatened more than once. Not only that, but in banishing the King who had raised her from the kingdom she left the people without a ruler, and left them vulnerable to attack from others.
With a heavy heart, but a sense of duty strong in her, Cassandra has returned, with a few friends, and her lover Kaden, to rebuild the Castle and restore the kingdom to its former beauty.
