"That's what we're trying to find out. The worst-case scenario is that Donner has her trapped on a different plane, which would mean we won't find her in this room at all." Kaden said, rather bluntly.

Leo looked around the room. There was no sign of Dyona." If he has her on a different plane, how are we going to find her, help her?" He looked at Kaden properly for the first time. " Kaden. If anyone can find her, you can. He's probably using her to lure you out." He shook his head. " I'm sorry. This is putting you in grave danger."

Kaden couldn't help but smirk. "I'm in grave danger pretty much 95% of the time anyways, I dunno how I'd get through a day without someone trying to kill me. So don't worry too much about it." He said. "Now about Dyona...Let's just keep looking. The little dark power I do have'll let me know if we get near the portal."

Seconds had turned into minutes....minutes into hours...and hours into days, she thought, at least. She was glad that she had quit screaming, and had found an unusual comfort in the darkness. In fact, as each day passed by, she found herself understanding each individual voice better. The one that she was currently listening to, sounded exactly like her ecology teacher from when she was a child and her tree barely a sprout. His lecture started the same, as well...'The point of this scenario is, what exactly, Caedyona Starborn?' She laughed, answering the voice for the umpteenth time, "I don't know. I've told you that and told you that. Find another question." But the voice didn't, 'The point of this scenario is, what exactly, Caedyona Starborn?' "To drive me mad!" She retorted. 'The point of...' She cut the voice off, "To open my mind, and not my eyes." Her teacher finally responded with something new, catching her off guard, 'Ahh, yes. I knew you would find the answer Starborn, but let me show you what you're opening your mind to...' Images flickered around her in the darkness, bright vivid images of people and places that she'd never seen, and her jaw dropped. She knew that she was still in the darkness, and that these sights were all in her head, but they were so beautiful, delicate, dangerous. The felt like a drug coursing through her, opening her to new vistas that she hadn't known existed...new worlds.
She lay back on her bed, the covers a tangled mess by her feet. Her sword was set carefully beside her, but she had set it there long ago, as the days turned into weeks, and she had grown weary. She had found that she wasn't hungry, and she hadn't shifted, but surely it had been weeks since she'd been stuck here. A vague unsettling smile settled on her lips as she watched visions pass before her. She was finding that she was beginning to understand the purpose for all the questions...they were guiding her on her growth towards...something.
A slightly mad laugh left her, as she waited for the next voice to present it's questions...and here it was, this time the voice was that of her friend, Narym, "Can this power increase space as well as darkness? Or is this an hallucination?" Dyona felt the mad laughter burbling up inside her, and her voice was tight when she responded, "Both. The answer must be both..." But there was no reply from the voice, only the sibilant whispers of thousands of other questions eager for their own answer...but before them all, came a new voice, one she recognized although she couldn't explain how, 'Do you understand me now, Caedyona Starborn? Do you understand me, now...' She laughed into the darkness, her reply choking on the sound, "Yes, Donner, I understand you. I won't fail, again." She felt approval from the essense around her, and looked around just in time to see a light appear so close to her bed it's intensity burned into her. In sudden understanding, she fled towards the light, she had earned a short reprieve, but she must not fail again...

Narym gave a start of surprise as Dyona, complete with bed, appeared just in front of her. " Dyona! A ghra, what happened?" She sat on the side of the bed, trailing her fingers lightly over the elf's body. Her friend thrummed with a residue energy which was begining to fade. She frowned and tried to follow it back to it's source, but it was gone too quickly. She looked up with concern. " Kaden, I'm pretty sure Donner had possession of her!" she said softly. She looked back at her friend. She was pale and drawn, looking like she hadn't slept for weeks. There were dark rings under her eyes and her lips were pale and dry. " Dyona, it's alright, you're safe now."

Leo tried to speak, but he didn't have the words. His mother got up from the bed and he took her place, looking at Dyona through tear filled eyes. " I'm sorry my love," he said. " I wasn't here to protect you. That will change very soon. This is probably not the time or the place, but, Dyona, mo anam cara. An bposfaidh tu me?" My soul mate, will you marry me?

Dyona sat stunned, as she tried to find words to answer them. Her eyes passed over Kaden, Narym and then Leonyr as she searched the room for shadows, trembling uncertainly. She heard their words, and tried to answer their questions, for that was all she had done for the last few weeks, "They were there...what happened? They were all there." Her voice lowered dramatically, and she suddenly fixed her gaze on Narym, who sat beside her, "You shouldn't listen to the shadows. They hear you. They know you." Her eyes flickered away as she saw the look that entered Narym's eyes, her own filled with uncompromising fear and madness. Her eyes drifted away from everyone, instead focusing on the forgotten orb of light that still hovered near, and she spoke to that, instead, "He can't see you in the light...but when you close your eyes, he's there. Do you understand, Starborn? He's there."
Dyona let her gaze slip back to the person beside her, and looked into Leonyr's eyes, but didn't realize that he had switched places with Narym. Her thoughts were far away from everything around her, trying to lock the darkness that had filtered through her into some other place, away from where she was at. She heard his words, and his question, but it didn't make any sense to her. Instead, she was racked by silent laughter, which slowly released itself in a horribly darkened version of her former tinkling laugh. Her eyes turned back to the orb of light, and she stood slowly, painfully, for the first time in weeks, and started trying to walk into it. "He can't see you in the light..." She giggled.

" She's still possessed!" Narym voice was harsh, full of tears. " Kaden, he's controlling her. If I meld with her, he may control me too. Tell me what to do!" She wanted to hold her back, but was not sure if it was safe to touch her. She looked up at the orb, unneeded now as the room was lit by the main light once more. She extinguished it and hoped she had done the right thing. She winced at Dyona's travesty of a laugh. Gods! If her friend was aware of what was happening, she must be terrified. She spared a glance for Leo. He was devastated and watched Dyona helplessly. She shook her head. "Don't touch her yet," she warned him.

"Sorry..." Kaden muttered softly to both Leo and Dyona, right before he pointed his palm at her. He wrestled with himself for a while, before lowering his hand and freezing her feet to the floor of the room. "She's not completely possessed right now, Donner wouldn't make it that blatant. I believe he just left traces of his...aura, we'll call it - still inside her. Turn your orb back on, Narym. We're gonna use it on her."

Dyona's reaction to the extinguishing of the orb hadn't been good. She had stopped dead in her tracks, and begun to search the room for the light that had been there only moments ago, and then had begun to pant. There was no light, there was no escape...she could feel whispers trying to drown out the thoughts in her head. A wicked snarl slid onto her features, and she turned from one person to the next as she was unable to decide which had removed what she saw as her only hope. She felt the ice freeze her feet to the floor, and swung towards the ice wizard, though there was no chance whatsoever of her actually catching him now that she was completely contained.
Instead, Dyona found that she couldn't contain the howl of despair that leapt from her, or the shadows that flickered on the edge of her vision. Not true darkness, but a reminder of where she had been and what she still had to do. If she didn't succeed, she knew that she would end up in the same place, to be picked apart by the questioning whispers that had already driven her mad. Her eyelids started to slide closed as tears overwhelmed her, but the darkness inside was far deeper than anything that was in the room, and she forced them open again. The madness in her voice could be tasted with a spoon, as she first began to hum, and then to speak, "Do you...do you know...what's behind the light. It's not the sun, it's not the stars, it's the endless night." Dyona's voice stopped as she settled herself onto the block of ice that held her feet imprisoned, apparently unfeeling of the cold, then she continued, unsteadily, "Have you...have your found...the answers that you seek? They're in the dark, they're down the hall, they're the secrets that you keep..." Then began to laugh madly at the strange limerick...

Narym could feel her own tears threaten as she watched Dyona display a creeping madness. At Kaden's instruction, she lit her orb again, allowing it to grow slowly but steadily just above her open palm. Then it rose until it hovered near the ceiling, filling the room with white light. She looked at Dyona's feet encased in ice and wondered if it was strong enough to hold her. Ah Dyona my friend I'm so sorry! she sent to the elf's mind, hoping that her voice would reach her thru whatever was controlling her. Be patient a ghra, we will soon have you free. Fight it, Dyona, fight it!

The hair on Leo's neck and arms stood on end as Dyona's howl echoed in his ears. He watched her helplessly as she began to display alarming signs of madness. He so desperately wanted to hold her in his arms and fight off whatever demons were making her behave so. But his mother was right, he couldn't touch her yet. So he stood and watched as tears slid down her face and sliced into his heart. He didn't understand the rhymes she uttered, but he kept them in the back of his mind to study later. He didn't know what was worse, hearing her howl in despair or laugh crazily. It was all a nightmare. When was he going to wake up?

We may already be too late. Kaden thought for a second, before shaking it out of his head. They still had to take the chance. "Everyone, prepare yourself. This is going to hurt her. The darkness inside her is poisoning her soul and her mind. If it stays for too long, the damage will be...irreparable. We're going to use the light to force it out of her, and it's not going to go easily." He warned, raising his arm and now pressing the amulet against the orb directly.
Focusing on Dyona, a beam of concentrated light burst from the sphere and hit her in the middle of her chest. It spread all throughout her body, causing her to give off an almost heavenly glow, but that was a stark contrast to the pain she had to be feeling. The light was burning, though there wasn't a trace of a wound on her body. It was all inside her that the light fought the darkness.

Dyona fell back as the beam of light hit her square in the chest, although it should have carried no weight, it was as solid as being struck with a club. Her feet held her pinned to the floor as she tried to squiggle away, twisting first one way and then another. An angry mewling sound twisted it's way past the scream that was building in her throat, and she started to foam at the mouth.
Part of her was welcoming the pure light that was burning through her, but part of her was doing everything it could to get as far away as possible, and to hide from the burning purity of it. She was flowing back and forth between feeling the ecstasy of the cleanliness of the light and fighting it with everything that she could muster. But the light didn't stop, and the darkness was being driven from inside her.
Slowly, so very very slowly, she stilled her actions, until she lay complacent on the floor of her room, her feet pinned under ice and her body pinned under the soothing light from the orb. Her eyes drifted shut, as she fell into a trance like sleep, and her breathing slowed until she truly appeared to be at peace. There were no whispers, there was no darkness in her body, or her mind, and a light smile slipped onto her face, the smile of one who has finally woken up to something beautiful.
Her eyelids drifted open, gently, and she smiled up at the people around her and the orb that brightened the room and lanced into her. Her eyes looked like they were glowing from the inside, and she whispered quietly as her eyelids drooped back down, "Look, Father...it's the Dawn fairies....." The memory from her childhood somehow triggered by the light and the figures before her....

The light seemed to have a mind of its own, realizing that the darkness seemed to be gone from Dyona's body. Thus, it cut itself off and reabsorbed itself back into the orb. Dropping his arm, he felt almost completely drained. It was only then that he realized how much of his own energy he was putting into this.
"Whew..." Kaden breathed. "How do you feel?" He asked, still a bit hesitant.
