What is a Vampire?
Vampires are creatures that came into being through a curse. A high priestess of Egypt in an effort to bring her lover back from the dead, (in itself forbidden!) used a forbidden spell which involved drinking the blood of infants. This so angered the gods that both she and her lover were cursed. Immortality was achieved, but to keep it, the creatures must drink the blood of living creatures for sustenance.
The curse was also given its own immortality in that it can be passed on through the bloodline of the orginal vampires. These creatures are known as lamia, but contrary to popular legend, they are NOTthe only ones who can bear children.
The curse can also be transmitted by blood. This means in order to be transformed into a vampire, not only must the vampire drink your blood, but you must drink the vampires as well. This makes it virtually impossible to become a vampire against your will. Errrr....except for the small matter of once you're bitten by a vampire you fall greatly under his influence, soooo...you might be persuaded to want to drink the vampires blood
.When a vampire feeds from a human via the neck, all the blood it extracts is full of needed oxygen. Because very little of the oxygen-filled cells in the blood is getting to the brain of the victim, it is likely the human will black out and not remember much of what took place. If s/he does they are more likely to write it off as a twisted hickey dream and go about their days.
Vampires can crossbreed with humans, with interesting results: The offspring can either be lamia. Or human. Or mortal lamia. Or immortal humans.
Vampires can be almost impossible to detect. Contrary to legend they can walk in the daylight, provided they either use sunscreen or wear protective clothing. Their eyes must be sheilded as well with protective lenses.
Vampires can eat and drink just as humans do, although the food has no nutritional value whatsoever for them. Most do it either as a way of disguise, or in the case of bitten vampires, out of nostalgia.
They do cast reflections in mirrors, and as they are quite vain, do so quite often.
Crosses and Holy Water do work to repel them IF used by a practicing Christian. Likewise garlic works to repel them if used by a practicing pagan. If you're neither of these, don't try it, you'll only piss them off.
Vampires can only enter your place of dwelling by your invitation, so be careful whom you invite into your home. You can rescind your invitation however.
Running water cannot stop a vampire (unless they can’t swim, that is). Burying a vampire under the ground will not prevent it from escaping and coming after your retarded ass for trying to do such a thing to them.
Vampires can be killed by a stake through the heart, beheading, or being burned to ashes.
